QR Codes for Business Cards with Links You Can Update

A business card leaves your hands and stays in circulation. Job titles, portfolios, company pages and booking links do not stay still for that long. A managed Dynamic QR code lets the card keep its printed face while you move the page behind it.

Decide before the box is printed: a Static QR code cannot be repointed once the cards are cut and handed out.

Why Card QR Codes Go Stale

Cards are the one printed piece you deliberately give away, which means you lose control of every copy the moment it is useful.

The card outlives the role

A card handed out at a conference is still in someone's wallet or card file long after a title, team or direct line has changed. The paper cannot be recalled; the page it points at can be moved.

Portfolios move hosts

Designers, photographers, architects and consultants migrate portfolios between hosts and site builders. Such a move often changes the address, and a printed copy of the old one is left pointing nowhere.

Company sites get rebuilt

A rebuild can rename or retire the team page a card was printed to reach. One destination edit is faster than reprinting for everyone who carries a card.

Booking links change providers

Scheduling tools are swapped more often than a card box is reordered, and the new link rarely matches the old one.

Cards are ordered in boxes

Printing is done in quantity, so an unusable destination is not one wasted card but the rest of the box.

Second scans happen late

A card is often scanned when the recipient finally has a reason to follow up — weeks later, from a desk, not at the moment of the handshake.

Choosing the One Destination a Card Should Lead To

A card code resolves to one address at a time, so the question is which single page is worth a stranger's attention after the conversation has ended.

  • One page you already host

Pick a single externally hosted destination — your own site, portfolio, company profile, or a page on a platform you use. SweQR resolves the code to that address; it does not host a profile for you.

  • Contact details on your own site

If you want the card to hand over a phone number and email, point it at a contact page you control, so the details stay editable after printing.

  • Portfolio or recent work

Send the scan to whatever currently represents your work, and move it forward as projects are replaced.

  • Booking or intake

For advisors, trades and clinicians the useful next step is a booking or intake page — and the one most likely to be replaced during the lifetime of the card.

A card is also the most brand-sensitive place to put a code, so see QR codes with a logo for styling that survives small print sizes, and editable QR codes for what “editable” does and does not mean on paper.

Step by step

Before the Card Box Is Ordered

  1. Step 1

Create a dynamic code per cardholder

One code per person, named after them. Separate codes mean a colleague's change never moves your destination.

  2. Step 2

    Set today's destination

Point it at the page you would want a new contact to see this week. It can be repointed at any time without reprinting.

  3. Step 3

Activate, then design for small print

Activation fixes the managed short link. Export SVG for the printer, keep the quiet zone clear, and test a scan on the real stock and finish.

  4. Step 4

    Repoint when your work moves

New role, new portfolio host, new booking tool: change the destination and every card already in circulation follows.

If you only need artwork for a one-off card today, static PNG and SVG files are exported free from the QR Design Studio, without an account — just remember that a static code keeps whatever address you put in it.

Cards in Circulation and Plan Changes

Cancelling a paid plan freezes the paid capabilities — editing destinations, scan analytics and creating new dynamic codes. Issued codes on SweQR's hosted redirect service keep resolving to their last saved destination, subject to the existing safety, lifecycle and service rules, so cards you have already given away are not left blank by a plan change.

Plans, capacity and analytics depth are listed on the pricing page.

FAQ

Business card QR codes — common questions

Is this a digital business card or vCard platform?

No. SweQR issues and manages the code and the link behind it. It does not host a digital card, a vCard profile or a personal landing page. You choose one destination you already have somewhere else, and you can change which one it is later.

Should the QR code replace the printed phone number and email?

Keep the essentials printed. A card still has to work when nobody scans anything. The code is the part that can be redirected once printed details go stale.

How small can the code be on a card?

Small, but not arbitrarily small. Keep the quiet zone clear, use strong contrast, and print a proof before ordering a box — a code that fails on cheap stock or a heavy varnish is a full reprint.

What if several people share one card design?

Give each person their own dynamic code so destinations can be changed independently, and name each code after the person it belongs to. A shared code means every change applies to everyone.

What happens to cards already handed out if I cancel a paid plan?

Paid editing, scan analytics and creating new dynamic codes freeze. Issued codes on SweQR's hosted redirect service keep resolving to their last saved destination, subject to the existing safety, lifecycle and service rules.

Print the Card Once, Keep the Introduction Current

Create the code as Dynamic before the box goes to print, then move the destination whenever your work, role or booking link does.
