Static QR
Destination fixed when createdThe destination lives inside the pattern. Changing the link means a new pattern — so the printed piece usually has to be reprinted.
Print once. Change where it leads.
Update where a managed SweQR dynamic code leads from your dashboard. The printed QR keeps working while the destination changes. Static QR design and download is free; dynamic codes are a paid, managed product.

The problem
Printed material tends to stay in circulation far longer than the pages it points to. The box, the sign and the card are all still in use — the URL is what moved.
With a static QR codeThe destination is encoded directly in the pattern. If the destination has to change, the printed code usually has to change too.
With a dynamic SweQR codeThe pattern points at a short link you keep, and you can update the destination behind it later without reprinting.
Before and after
Both codes look like a QR code on the shelf. The difference is what the pattern actually contains.
The destination lives inside the pattern. Changing the link means a new pattern — so the printed piece usually has to be reprinted.
Update the destination in SweQR and keep using the same printed QR. The code and its short link stay exactly as printed.
Update the destination in SweQR. Keep using the same printed QR. Static codes are still the right choice when the destination is genuinely permanent — this page is about the printed pieces that outlive their link.
Three steps
Step 1
Use the SweQR Design Studio to set the pattern, corner markers, colors, frame and a center logo, then check it decodes before you send it to print.
Step 2
Put it on packaging, business cards, signs, menus, flyers or any other physical material. The code and its short link are fixed from that point on.
Step 3
Open the code in your SweQR dashboard, enter a new destination and save. The destination is checked before the change goes live; the printed QR stays the same.
Use cases
Each of these works because the code was created as a dynamic SweQR code before it went to print.
Update campaigns, product pages or instructions without replacing printed packaging. A skincare box can point to a launch page today and a how-to-use page later.
Printed carton — launch page today, instructions later
Change your portfolio, booking page or company website without ordering new cards just because the URL changed.
Printed card — portfolio, then a booking page
Move between seasonal menus, or point the code at online ordering, while the table QR stays where it is.
Table sign — spring menu, then summer menu
Set the code up as a dynamic SweQR code before printing, then use the same printed QR for the RSVP page before the day and a photo gallery afterward.
Printed invitation — RSVP, then the gallery
Update the destination behind printed property signs, flyers or brochures when the listing, viewing form or contact details change.
Yard sign — listing, then a viewing form
Move a printed poster QR from registration to the schedule, then to live information and post-event content — one print run.
Poster — registration, schedule, recap
Make sure the QR code can still work for you when the destination changes. Deciding this before the print run is the only moment it is free to decide.
Design studio
An editable destination does not mean a plain black square. Design the code first, check that it decodes, then export artwork for print.

Static vs dynamic
Neither is better in general. Pick based on whether the printed object is likely to outlive the destination URL.
| Static QR | Dynamic SweQR QR | |
|---|---|---|
| Destination editable later | No | Yes, in your dashboard |
| Scan management | None | Codes and scan data in one place |
| Useful for changing campaigns | Limited | Yes |
| Useful for long-lived printed material | Limited | Yes |
| Simple one-time destination | Yes — nothing to manage | Also fine |
Choose static when the destination is genuinely permanent and there is nothing to manage afterward.
Choose dynamic when the printed piece may still be in use after the link has moved.
Built to last
Printed material often stays in circulation longer than the website or campaign behind it. SweQR is built around keeping the code identity stable while the destination stays yours to manage, subject to our plans, safety controls and service terms.
Once issued, a code and its short link are not reused, reassigned or rewritten.
Every new destination is validated before the change reaches the people scanning.
A destination that was fine on day one is re-verified rather than trusted once.
SweQR-hosted issued codes keep resolving to their last saved destination; creating and editing pause until you subscribe again. Custom hostname serving follows its separate continuity policy.
FAQ
It depends on how the code was made. A static QR code has the destination encoded in the pattern itself, so the printed code always opens that exact URL. A dynamic SweQR code encodes a short link instead, and the destination behind that link can be updated later on a plan that includes destination editing, after its safety check — so the printed code keeps working while the page it opens changes.
Yes, for a SweQR dynamic code. Edit the destination in your dashboard and save. The pattern, the short link and the printed material all stay exactly as they are.
No. If the code was generated as a static QR code — by SweQR or anyone else — the destination is inside the pattern and cannot be changed afterward. SweQR cannot retroactively repoint a static code that another generator already produced. The decision to make a code editable has to be made before printing.
The printed code stays the same. The new destination is checked before the change goes live, and later scans use the updated destination after normal edge propagation. A destination that looks unsafe or gets reported can be held instead of passed through.
Static is fine when the destination is genuinely permanent and there is nothing to manage. Dynamic makes sense when the printed object may outlive the link — packaging, menus, signage, campaigns, cards and anything else you would rather not reprint.
Yes. The SweQR Design Studio covers module patterns, separate outer corner frames and inner centers, colors, a caption frame and a center logo, and it runs contrast, margin and marker checks while you edit. You can export PNG or SVG for print. The studio is free to use without an account.
Dynamic SweQR codes record scans, and how much detail you can read depends on your plan's analytics level: scan totals and trends at the entry level, country and device breakdowns above that, and browser, operating system and referring host on higher plans. How far back you can look is set by your plan's retention. Scans keep being counted regardless of plan level, so an upgrade reveals history that was retained the whole time.
Already-issued codes are not deleted, moved or rewritten. SweQR-hosted codes keep resolving to their last saved destination; paid capabilities such as creating new codes, editing destinations and analytics pause until you subscribe again. Customer-owned custom hostnames follow their separate serving and continuity policy. Normal safety and lifecycle rules still apply.
